EDUCATIONAL SURGICAL VIDEOS FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF UROLOGY OF THE UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL OLOMOUC AND THE FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND DENTISTRY OF PALACKÝ UNIVERSITY OLOMOUC

Dear students, dear colleagues,

we would like to present to you a videocollection of urological surgical procedures. It does not cover all types of surgeries but a selection of endoscopic procedures. These are focused on diagnostics and therapy of upper (urothelial tumours, urolithiasis) and lower urinary tract disease (tumours of urinary bladder, BPH, urethral strictures). Included are also basic types of drainage of the urinary system (permanent catheter or suprapubic catheter insertion, drainage of upper urinary tract) since these techniques are in many cases provided by other (non-urologic) specialists (emergency department doctors, general surgeons, general practitioners or internal medicine doctors).

To reach maximal benefit for the viewers we attached a theoretical introduction to the examination or surgery. Subsequently, we present real case studies including patient‘s history, preoperative findings, postoperative course or histopathology.

The aim of our work was not to prepare „state of the art“ videos and techniques. An experienced urologist can certainly find sections which may be subject for discussion about surgical indications or correctness of the technique. Concurrently, the authors aggree that personal students´ attendance in the operating theatre and case analysis with the surgeon are essential and irreplaceable. On the other hand, the intention of these presented surgeries is to make students of medical faculties and nursing schools at least partially more familiar with these procedures.

Simultaneously we suggest that the presented procedures and case reports can be of great contribution even for medical non-urological professionals to refresh basic steps and principles of endourologic surgery.
